It’s been very hard to get myself caught up, but I think I finally am. Now, I can get started on the semi-nightly trailer watch posts. As I said when I redesigned the concept a few weeks ago to only do a guaranteed weekly preview article highlighting films coming out at the box office the subsequent weekend, I was planning to do occasional Trailer Watch updates to share my thoughts on trailers I find either noteworthy or for films I think merit special consideration. To kick things off, I present my thoughts on the excellent trailer for the second part of the final Harry Potter film. Since I was a bit behind, I have enough to post one new trailer each night for the next three or four weeks. I may interrupt them with other new trailers as they are revealed, but for now, enjoy this special event.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

Poster
Rating:A Commentary: We’ve spent ten years of our lives with these characters in the films and every element of past successful trailers is present. There’s action, dramatic tension and hints of sorrow wrapped in a emotion-plucking trailer.
Rating:B Commentary: The poster does give a sense of the gravity of the film’s climactic battle, though the background is lacking detail making the poster feel a bit emptier than it should.

Oscar Chances:Being the last in the series, I expect quite a few nominations to suddenly start showing up. Although the previous films have never managed more than three nominations, I can see a raft of nods including Art Direction, Costume Design, Makeup, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects as well as a possible nod for Original Score and maybe, if they are lucky, a Best Picture nomination.
