John Dies at the End

Plot Summary: A black market drug turns some of its users into mindless zombies while others find glimpses of the future that might help them defeat the unseen enemy.

Rating: B+
Commentary: It’s nice to see such bizarre concept pictures using cheesy ’70s poster designs to sell the film. While I don’t know how much good it will do, it’s at least interesting to look at. 		Rating: B- / B
Commentary: The first trailer downplays the excessive zaniness of the plot, hoping to engage a different type of audience than will typically make a film a hit. / The second trailer lets out some of the stops, showing a madcap film of humorous absurdity. This will appeal much more to the crowd that made films like Shaun of the Dead cult hits. And with the added pedigree of this film’s director’s Bubba Ho-Tep as a pre-existing cult film, the chances for this one to follow in those footsteps is heightened.
