Another slow day (I guess they dumped all their trailers late last week. Today we have new trailers for Gnomeo & Juliet and Marwencol. And that’s it.
GNOMEO & JULIET
Plot Summary: William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy re-written for warring families of garden gnomes. Release Date:February 11, 2011

Rating:C+ Commentary: If the premise seems a bit weird, it is. Obviously, since this is a kids’ flick we should expect Gnomeo or Juliet to live happily ever after. Some of the scenes are charming, but others are just wasted opportunities and predictable kid-friendlies.
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders.

MARWENCOL
Plot Summary: A documentary about a man beaten senseless who finds life again by staging scenes or war with dolls. Release Date:October 8, 2010

Rating:B- Commentary: For the simple reason of how original the concept is, this may be one of those documentaries with possible crossover appeal. Unfortunately, it’s also a bit too bizarre for some people.
Rating: None Commentary: None Available.

Due Date looks like another The Hangover (of course, it’s by the same director). Robert Downey Jr. has never looked less funny and Zach Galifianakis is an insufferable person (so, I guess it’s appropriate he’s the insufferable character in the film, but he’ll end up with the “heart of gold” at the end).
My reviews also cover the quality of the trailer and its ability to deliver its desired audience. I think Gnomeo succeeds better at this than Due Date, though I don’t particularly want to see either.
