Commentary: The film looks like quite a bit of traditional sermonizing. It has solid actors in it, but the premise looks so wholesome and unwaveringly banal that it may not succeed outside of DVD. 		Rating: B-

Oscar Chances: Duvall hasn’t been courting Oscar for some time and the film just seems to mainstream to appeal to the Oscars.

    Oscar buzz is debatable. I don’t think he had much of any talk going in for Open Range and while there was talk for Get Low, I was fairly positive from the time I previewed it forward that he wasn’t getting a nomination.

    Robert Duvall may not have been nominated since 1998’s “A Civil Action,” but he was talked about briefly in 2003 for “Open Range” and for a long time was seen as a contender for his role in “Get Low” (2010). Ultimately, the Academy was not impressed enough with either film to put him over the top into the final five. But he hasn’t exactly been forgotten either. He still generates Oscar buzz from time to time.
