Commentary: The trailer will undoubtedly appeal to a mass audience without need to be a deep story, which isn’t in evidence in the trailer. Bradley Cooper doesn’t look bad, but Jennifer Lawrence may be the scene-stealer in the film.

Oscar Chances: The Weinstein Company has three projects that could be equally prominent in this year’s Oscar season. This seems the most widely-appealing of the choices (Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and John Hilcoat’s Lawless being the others), which could position for a Best Picture run with Lawrence, Cooper and Robert De Niro each being championed as Oscar nominees and Lawrence likely moving into an Oscar-winning position.
