Trailer

Rating: B
Commentary: It’s a little simple, but Channing Tatum seems to be a strong sales tool in recent years making the simplicity effective.
Rating: C
Commentary: Roland Emmerich films aren’t great films, but they are nearly as entertaining as anything Irwin Allen did in the 1970’s. And with his penchant for supporting liberal causes, Emmerich gets bonus points for entertaining and informing a public that needs to be more enlightened even with light political emphasis. The trailer itself is a drag, focusing on grainy and poorly transmitted live-on-scene images that try to avoid giving away too much of the guaranteed action excitement, ultimately quashing any of the most potentially enjoyable conceits in the film.

Oscar Chances: Emmerich’s films haven’t been huge Oscar contenders, but depending on what else comes out this year, this could be a plausible contender.
