Today, we begin a new feature here at Cinema Sight. Our four regular contributors are going to tell you how they feel about the weekend’s upcoming film releases. We’ll list out each of the week’s new releases (wide and limited releases), tell you whether or not we’ll see them, if they are Oscar contenders and give you an idea of what we think about the films themselves. Feel free to leave some feedback so we know how you like it or feel free to provide any feedback you think would help improve the feature!

Thoughts

Although I’m certain this is going to be another in a long line of adaptation duds, it’s one of those films my friends are likely to want to see, which means I’ll probably end up seeing it even if it looks like it’s going to be bad.

Thoughts

Despite its all-star cast, the original wasn’t very involving. Today’s state-of-the-art effects may make it one of those rare remakes that trump the original, but I’m not in any hurry to find out.

Thoughts

This seems to have disaster written all over it. The original is beloved mostly because of the cheesy special effects, so putting “great” special effects in it is not going to help.

Thoughts

I don’t really know how this one is going to be. Live-action fantasy films haven’t really been very big at the box-office unless they have name recognition like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia. This one could break out, though, thanks in part to newly minted superstar Sam Worthington in the lead role. The 3D aspect should help it as well.

Thoughts

Stupid comedies about animal revenge are about as corny and unfunny as a Pauly Shore movie.

Thoughts

Brendan Fraser hasn’t made a good movie since The Quiet American. This looks like another dumb kids’ movie which unfortunately has become his trademark.

Thoughts

None

Thoughts

I haven’t seen or heard anything about it, but the premise sounds stupid. I think I’ll pass.

Thoughts

Miley Cyrus is a no-starter for me. It looks like an absolutely dreadful romantic and superficial family drama.

Thoughts

Aside from The Notebook, film versions of Nicholas Sparks’ novels, none of which I’ve read, are pretty lame. This one looks no different.

Thoughts

The Nicholas Sparks-Miley Cyrus combination is going to be big news in some areas, so expect this to be much more successful than most people will give it credit for.

Thoughts

It’s Miley Cyrus starring in an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel. Do I really need to say anything else?

Thoughts

I haven’t seen the first film and I have no desire to see the sequel.

Thoughts

I have no interest in seeing the sequel to a film I haven’t seen.

Thoughts

None

Thoughts

As a rule, I don’t watch Tyler Perry movies. I don’t imagine I’ll start now.

Thoughts

The ludicrous concept doesn’t appeal to me, but some critics seem to like it, so who knows how good it will be.

Thoughts

This looks like it could go either way. Edward Norton and Tim Bake Nelson are a fun team. It all depends on how well they keep the silliness under control as to which direction it tips the scale.

Thoughts

I like Tim Blake Nelson’s work quite a bit, so I am keeping up (small) hopes for this one

Thoughts

The title is deceptive. I thought this had something to do with Walt Whitman. Apparently it’s just another stupid indie comedy about a guy coming home after a long absence. How many times have I seen this movie before?
