The Hunger Games did well enough last week to take the top spot, but it wasn’t a big enough take to fend off a new Disney animated movie. Wish is likely to do well over Thanksgiving weekend with its competition vying for adult filmgoers who don’t often turn out in the same numbers as family audiences.

WIDE RELEASES

NAPOLEON

SALTBURN

WISH

Napoleon

Wesley Lovell: It’s been far too long since Ridley Scott made a film I wanted to see. This one isn’t among them.

Peter J. Patrick: I had little interest in this latest Napoleon film, less after the mostly dreadul early reviews.

Thomas La Tourrette: The large battle scenes look impressive, but the rest of the trailer is uninspired and just comes across as mediocre.

Saltburn

Wesley Lovell: Emerald Fennell is a terrific filmmaker, so I’m excited to see what she does in her sophomore outing.

Peter J. Patrick: One of the year’s most highly anticipated films may not live up to its hype, but seems worthy of at least a look.

Thomas La Tourrette: Emerald Fennell’s debut film was impressive, so I am looking forward to this one even though this class satire has more mixed reviews.

Wish

Wesley Lovell: Disney has been in a bit of a slump the last several years, so my excitement for this film is limited.

Peter J. Patrick: Disney’s latest looks mediocre at best, but I’ll probably give it a shot at some point.

Thomas La Tourrette: The reviews are not kind so far, but it boasts great voice talent and will be a sure Oscar nominee.

LIMITED RELEASES

DUE JUSTICE

MAESTRO

MONSTER

THEY SHOT THE PIANO PLAYER

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Maestro is the only title I’m excited to see. Everything else just looks meh.

Peter J. Patrick: Maestro for sure, Monster and They Shot the Piano Player probably at some point, Due Justice hopefully never.

Thomas La Tourrette: Maestro about Leonard Bernstein looks best of these and is bound to be a major Oscar contender. Due Justice is a total pass, an ultraviolent thriller. Both Monster and They Shot the Piano Player have definite possibilities.
