There are two options for the highest opening among wide releases. Digger stars Tom Cruise and Cruise has rarely not opened big. Verity is horror and horror fans are a big demographic. Between the two, I suspect Digger is the more likely to open higher but mixed early reactions might stifle its success.

Wesley Lovell: The trailer isn’t exciting enough to make this a must-see.

Pete Patrick: Futuristic drama with an unappealing trailer.

Thomas La Tourrette: Nothing about the trailer made this kidnapping film look that interesting. Not terrible, but just not very good.

Digger

Wesley Lovell: Between filmmaker and stars, I think this could be worth the effort but I wouldn’t rush out to see it.

Pete Patrick: Early reviews for this highly publicized film aren’t good.

Thomas La Tourrette: I have no idea what to expect of this movie, though since it looks to be an Oscar contender, I will need to see it. Truthfully, the trailer makes it seem like it could be brilliant or a total misfire,

Verity

Wesley Lovell: There’s a literary quality to this horror film that makes it intriguing but it also has the potential to be underwhelming.

Pete Patrick: Another thriller with an unappealing trailer.

Thomas La Tourrette: The enigmatic trailer does evoke some interest as one wonders what is happening in this psychological thriller.

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Nothing this week piques my interest.

Pete Patrick: Atonement looks like it could be an excellent film and Big Girls Don’t Cry looks like it could have possibilities.  The others look like things to avoid.

Thomas La Tourrette: Three of the films look way too violent. Atonement looks the most interesting with a soldier wishing to speak with a family he shot at during the war, but I am not sure I will be seeing it.
